Destination Wedding Photo Tips
If you are planning a destination wedding, you need to consider how you are going to communicate with your photographer. A destination wedding photographer is often used to working with couples at (sometimes) unfamiliar locations, but you need to make sure that you are both on the same page. Here are a few tips for working with your photographer:
- If possible, fly your photographer in to do your engagement photos. This allows you to meet your photographer before the wedding and to establish a comfort level by getting to know each other. If this isn’t possible, try to have at least a few phone conversations before the wedding, or perhaps even a video chat.
- If you are getting married at or near a beach, decide whether you want the ocean to be a backdrop for your photographs. Beach wedding photography involves some extra preparation on the part of the photographer, and you want to let her know beforehand.
- If you hire a destination wedding photographer through your resort, you may not have the opportunity to meet her before the wedding. If this is the case, remember that the best photographs are taken when you are just being yourself. Also, prepare a list of the types of photographs you want her to focus on (for example, you may want more romantic pictures of the bride and groom as opposed to people eating and dancing at the reception).
